The author started work with the Southern Railway in 1942 as a Junior Draughtsman and gained experience of the diesel and electric traction through a variety of appointments, including work with the Sulzer Company, until retirement in 1990. Throughout this period he was busy with his camera and this photo album records these years of development and change, all described in full drawing on the wealth of knowledge acquired over the years.
