Emirati artist Abdul Qader Al Rais is celebrated in this book which accompanied his 2018-19 retrospective exhibition in MAnarat Al Saadiyat, Abu Dhabi, 'Abdul Qader Al Rais: 50 Years of Art'.It is a comprehensive portrait of the life and works of this pioneering artist and master of painting. The book chapters follow the exhibition gallery themes of Early Figures; Home; Earth and Sky; People and Time; Impressions and Abstractions; and Hurufiyyat. We follow the evolution of Al Rais's style, from early figurative work to more recent paintings of calligraphic abstraction. This publication also explores key events in the past five decades as seen through the artist's eyes and intellectual, social and political influences on his work. 'Abdul Qader Al Rais: 50 Years of Art' features essays by curators Maisa Al Qassimi and Sara Bin Safwan, as well as artist and critic Ali Al Abdan. It is also an interview with Al Rais and a separate interview with his friend and fellow artist Sami Mohammed of Kuwait, by Sultan Al Qassimi of Barjeel Art Foundation.
