In 1969 London socialite Katherine Fletcher is dispatched by her family to attend the funeral of her bachelor uncle in rural Kilkenny. She soon discovers that she has no idea who, if anyone, she can trust and that nothing is as it seems. In spite of this, Katherine decides to stay and battle the many hardships of running her uncle's primitive farm, hoping to uncover the truth surrounding his untimely and suspicious death. She discovers that she is not only unwelcome but also abhorred in this tight-knit community. Following a series of violent assaults, she finds herself unwittingly entangled in a republican paramilitary operation with far-reaching consequences. When the truth about the ruthless republican network, her uncle's death and her family entanglements become clear, Katherine realises she must grasp her own power and use it.
