America's overwhelming support of Israel in the form of political top cover in the United Nations Security Council and billions of dollars in economic and military aid are a result of Cold War thinking and require an upgrade. In order to achieve U.S. interests in the Middle East, the Bush Administration must balance its lop-sided approach to Israel and consider Arab and Muslim culture, interests and institutions.
