Samuel is a widowed crippled by grief and unable to let go of his past. He finds a new job as a schoolteacher in an Amish community and expects to meet nothing but polite and religious people. The fiery and challenging Rachel, however, breaks the mold of what he was expecting. He hires her to help him take care of his young daughter and the two become instant friends.
