In 1940, during the darkest hours of the Second World War, an extensive area of Welsh land was seized to be used as a firing range. 54 families were forced to leave Epynt at short notice, and a civilized community, Welsh in language, was dispersed in a few months. This was a tragedy, but equally tragic is that there remains so much ignorance about the evictions which occurred.
