This is deeply coloured, substantial and ripe, with generous aromas of almost candied black plum and cherry, liberally anointed with oak resin, vanillin and spice. It is full bodied, soft, warm and quite plush with fine tannin. A touch sweet but contextually appropriate. It lacks varietal personality but it is California to its boot straps. This golden drink was very fashionable in Paris during World War 1. Since it's sour, it's definitely due for a comeback. To add glamour, rub the rim of the glass with a lemon wedge and dip in sugar.
