This unit serves as an introduction to the various creative ways of reusing and recycling objects. This is a "hands-on" unit that will develop and motivate students to become activists in making decisions that will affect them and the environment now and in the future. Students will be able to use their experience and previous knowledge in order to categorize junkyard objects as either household or industrial waste. Students will also become familiar with some forces of movement and complete various activities givng them ideas on how to create an invention.
Final Task: Students work in small groups to create an invention using recycled materials and present a model or an accompanying diagram to the class.
Age appropriate, full-colour and motivating themes, containing opportunities for speaking, listening, reading, and writing, presented in a variety of formats. Also included are models of final tasks, video clips, learning strategy boxes, and examination of grammar in Quete-language boxes. A mini reference hand-book "Mini-guide", located at the back of the student book, includes literacy strategies, additional information related to the theme, and a summary of all language structures presented in the unit.
