John Fleurriet Delaforce came to Porto in 1834 to set up the new firm of Martinez Gassiot, delving into the Port business. From there, House Delaforce was created in 1868 by his son George Henry Delaforce. Interestingly, between 1894 and 1906 the company was distinguished with a warrant as a supplier of Port to the Portuguese royal household. Today Delaforce is run by Real Companhia Velha, an independent family group which focuses on quality production. Richard Mayson: A touch of orange marmalade on the nose and palate, with a sweet and suave finish. Rod Smith MW: Woody and toffee-like scents lead to rich and baked flavours of cream and caramel, with a lovely harmony and an enduring finish. Demetri Walters MW: Even and harmonious, with alluring citrus aromas ceding to tarry, leather and plum flavours, against a backdrop of well-integrated alcohol and sweetness. Great poise and persistence. Score - 95.
