The Corton Clos du Roi is a standout from the de Montille cellar in 2021 as it often is. The fruit aromas are sweet cherry and bright wild strawberry with a hint of earth and a suggestion of menthol. There is plenty of density, but the lively acidity makes it appear effortless, and draws the wine to a lingering finish. The domaine farms 0.83 hectares of old vines here that deliver grapes of impressive concentration; half were destemmed in 2021 before fermenting, and the wine is ageing now in cask (one-third new). Drinking window: 2025-2045. Score - 93. (Charles Curtis, MW, decanter.com, Oct. 31, 2022) The Corton Clos du Roi is a standout from the de Montille cellar in 2021 as it often is.
