The story of Florene Linnen and the Georgetown County Diabetes CORE Group. With only a 6th grade education, she used the lessons that she learned from her parents along with life lessons, to aid her in transforming the treatment of diabetes in the rural (mostly African-American) part of Georgetown County, South Carolina. Having diabetes herself, she took information from a workshop and rallied the community members to work together. Her results had such an impact that people from across the nation have sought out her secrets. Mrs. Linnen and her organization have been recognized across the United States in publications and with various awards. So many people have asked how she did it. This books shares her foundation and the work that she did, while always standing up for what is right. The book shares different projects that the group has implemented in order to give people an idea of what they can do in their communities.
