A sci-fi novel Last and First Men anticipates the fascinating far future of humanity. Written in 1930 by Olaf Stapledon, the book is an early example of collective consciousness. It narrates the story of human evolution divided into eighteen distinct species. The improvement between them is achieved through genetic engineering. An eye-catching succession of the civilizations and their distinct characteristics makes the book very interesting and somehow frightening. In 2018, Jóhann Jóhannsson filmed a movie by the same name, which was premiered at Berlin International Film Festival. The movie shortly converted into success. Even though the book was written almost 100 years before, it still continues to gain people’s attention. Olaf Stapledon surely left an unforgettable trace on the path of the science fiction genre by writing Last and First Men.
