What could be more counter-cultural than obedience to the point of death? That is precisely what Jesus did for us, and then he called all his followers to do the same. If we are the beneficiaries of his obedience, how can we obey for the benefit of others? Jesus says, "If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love" (John 15:10).
