Né en 1916 dans un milieu ouvrier et laïc du Jura, P. Béjuis retrace son parcours, depuis son enfance jusqu'à la reconstruction de l'après-guerre. Apprenti typographe, il tente de lancer une affaire avant d'être mobilisé en 1939. Réformé, il poursuit ses activités tout en abritant des Juifs ou en aidant les résistants. En 1944, il est déporté avec 300 habitants de Saint-Claude et revient en 1945.
