Books don't self-destruct. They are destroyed. By people. By people specifically, I mean KIDS! This is not because children don't love books. Kids don't think about stuff like that. As a school librarian, I've seen once beautiful books come back ruined due to improper handling. There are very few books on the market to use for lessons on proper book upkeep. The only thing that seemed to help my youngest students understand the need to nurture books, was to put this in the most relatable idea of care: Treat books like babies!
