I was diagnosed with Anorexia Nervosa at the age of sixteen. When I had just turned eighteen, I was admitted to hospital for treatment. After nine weeks on a mental health ward I was discharged, but I was far from recovered. This is the tale of my continuing battle with Anorexia Nervosa, which has taken over half of my life so far. Reader review: A Cautionary Tale is an incredibly vulnerable and insightful lived experience account of a non-binary late diagnosed Autistic's decades long battle with anorexia nervosa. It is also a scathing rebuke of mainstream AN treatment programs and the deep enduring harm that these can cause. It is a call to action for clinicians in this country to know and do better when supporting their clients with AN.
