In a small village in the south-east corner of France a coffin of white marble containing the bones of two early-Christian martyrs gives forth a steady supply of clear water. Every year hundreds of people flock to the abbey church to obtain some water, convinced of its miraculous nature and ability to cure them of illness.Anthony Fitzherbert was commissioned into the Royal Engineers from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst. After taking a General Science Degree at the Royal Military College of Science at Shrivenham, he served in the Far East and then in Germany. He next attended the Belgian Staff College in Brussels and then served in the Middle East; the Ministry of Defence in London; and NATO Headquarters in Belgium. He spent his last five years in the Army as Liaison Officer to the French Engineers.On retiring to the South of France, Anthony came across the “Coffin of Clear Water” in Aries sur Tech and decided that he had to solve the mystery.In this book, the author traces the history of the coffin and looks at the theories which scientists have put forward to explain this eight-hundred-year-old enigma.
