Excerpt from A Contribution to the Study of Anglo-Norman Influence on English Place-Names A detailed account of the various kinds of this influence would fill the pages of several volumes. In the present work I have only considered a number of sound-changes in English place-names which cannot be explained otherwise than as due to anglo-norman influence. Here, again, I have mainly confined myself to dealing with such cases where the phonetic criteria do not admit of any doubt as to the cause of the change, and where, moreover, some of the forms due to anglo-norman influence have remained to the present day. I do not presume to have definitely solved all the more or less intricate problems involved in these investigations; I hope, however, that my work may contribute to arouse an increased interest in the (sad to say) much neglected study of English. Place-names in general and in particular of French influence upon them. It is with pleasure that I take this Opportunity of expres sing my sincere thanks to my teacher in English philology, Professor Eilert Ekwall of the University of Lund, who has not who has revised my treatise from the point of view 0 language.
