Who doesn’t love giraffes? A young girl named Susanna discovers a giraffe that has escaped from captivity. Susanna keeps her as a pet, cutting a hole in her second story bedroom floor. At night Geranium is able to sleep with her head on Susanna’s pillow. They go for walks, but the neighbours are not happy because Geranium has a habit of eating the apples on the trees and flowers in the gardens. Autumn has come, then winter snows and Susanna sees that the giraffe is not only cold and shivering, but getting sadder and sadder by the day. She knows that the giraffe must be returned to her homeland in Africa. Suzanna sees a familiar sailboat moored in the cove, and it comes to pass that the captain of the sailboat helps Susanna to return Geranium to Africa. On the trip, there is a fierce windstorm, but Geranium’s long neck saves the day when the mast is lost in the storm. Once in Africa, Geranium is reunited with her kind…
