Charlotte Martin feels trapped in a life defined by a promise she made her father. A letter from an estranged relative offers Charlotte a holiday on Vancouver Island. There she discovers love and kindness that she remembers from childhood. She returns home determined to take her life into her own hands, but a family secret reveals the reason for the estrangement and disrupts Charlotte's plans.
