The poems in this first, fresh collection, called "A Petal at a Time," come in a variety of moods and modes. They have been inspired by emotions, incidents, and places that the poet, Preety Sengupta, has travelled to. And they are written in different styles-from prosodic meters to free verse formats. The sprinkling of names from her background in India gives some of the poems a pleasing intonation, and her penchant for the "English" spelling is charming.
