Venerable Father Walter Ciszek Who was Venerable Father Walter Ciszek? Walter Ciszek was born in 1904 to Polish immigrants who settled in Shenandoah, Pennsylvania. He was a fighter and gang member who seemed more destined for reform school than for the seminary. But while still in his teens, Walter experienced a call to the priesthood. He channeled his remarkable energy and stamina into learning how to walk with God and how to serve His people.
