It's been four years since Secretly, Maine, has seen substantial snow. With a blizzard in the forecast, the local snowmobile club scrambles to prepare the trails with signage and permission from landowners to ride on their property. Pine Acres owner Raven Ouelette has her own storm plans, to update one of the cabins, and eavesdrops on an argument while searching through paint cans in the marine store. When an abandoned snowmobile and its injured rider are found on the ungroomed trail of a reluctant landowner, Raven realizes the disagreement she overheard may be connected to the accident.
Her husband, Barrett County Sheriff Marcel Ouelette, warns her to stay out of it, again. She really does try, distracted by uncovering her deceased mother's secret, and worrying about Marcel's renewed friendship with his ex-girlfriend, the new country DA, but the tug of the snowmobile crash and a break-in at Wolf Marine pull her back into the intrigue. With the help of her estranged father and her friend Betty, she soon finds herself mixed up with angry new neighbors, shy alpacas, unpaid debts, and a stolen paint-by-numbers picture.
