In February 2009 we sailed from Valparaiso on a cruise along the coasts of Chile, Argentina and Uruguay, passing through the Strait of Magellan, Tierra del Fuego and around Cape Horn. This cruise was an eye-opener to me, because I previously had been so taken by the unforgettable experience of North America. At the Strait of Magellan we enjoyed a beautiful view of Punta Arenas, with its backdrop of mountains covered in snow, and the sea littered with ice. This was in anticipation of what we later found in Ushuaia, capital of the Antarctica Argentina and southernmost town in the Western Hemisphere. Situated at the famed "Tierra del Fuego", land of the fire, we found Artic weather and alpine architecture. We then passed out of the Strait of Magellan and rounded stormy Cape Horn, where the currents of the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans collide, creating the legendary turbulence of winds and waves. My drawings aim to show many of the wonders of the southern continent.
