Connor Morrison is always getting bounced around through many foster homes and then back again. His mother Mindy Morrison has had problems with drugs and can't really look after him properly.
Then the Children's Aid Society asks Connor's mother to make a decision. Either enter a drug rehab center or give Connor up for good. Bouncing around, back and forth to all these foster homes is not good for Connor, he is failing at school and needs stability. Mindy decides to permanently give Connor up so he can be placed in a permanent foster home.
Connor is sent to live with Mary and Jim Harper who run a small rescue hobby farm. Connor enjoys helping to look after the animals with the other family members. He also meets a little special needs puppy at the local animal hospital named Blue. Because of a car accident, Blue cannot walk or run. This makes the puppy almost unadoptable. Connor comes up with a plan to help the puppy get around hoping this will make the puppy get adopted.
Helping with the rescued animals, Connor also learns about connecting with others through, of all things, the various different blues. Whether it's the music called 'the Blues', feeling 'blue' or other various forms of this special magical word, Connor finds out that 'Blue' truly isn't just a colour.
