Cold War Road Warrior - A European Adventure This book tells the story of twenty years exploring Europe, East and West, at the height of the Cold War. Driving thousands of miles on rough roads in rough weather through tough traffic across the Soviet Bloc gave real meaning to the term "road warrior". But it was my choice and my adventure! Raised in a provincial English suburb during the austere years in and after the Second World War, I longed to explore the world outside. With little exposure to science during my schoolyears, I was also fascinated by the world of science and technology and longed to become part of it. This story shows how I fulfilled both longings. In it I have tried to share my enjoyment in traveling to places far from the tourist track and meeting colorful characters in very different countries and cultures. I have also tried to show my excitement in getting to know advanced technologies from electronic steam irons to supersonic aircraft. This book is for all who share such dreams!
