Excerpt from Doctor Johnson and the Fair Sex: A Study of Contrasts MY chief object in writing this book was to provide those who are curious on the subject, but lack time or inclination for research, with a convenient summary of what is known about the relations that existed between Dr. Samuel Johnson and divers notable women of his time. To this I have added short descrip tions of certain ladies whose names, though occurring frequently in the story of Johnson's life, may have become more or less unfamiliar to the average reader of our own day. My facts are borrowed mainly from Boswell. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work.
