The Piron's family history in Beaujolais dates back 14 generations to a forebear born in Morgon in 1590. Dominique Piron created Maison Piron in 1988, enabling the business to buy in grapes, significantly increasing its reach - a process accelerated when Julien Revillon joined in partnership in 2013. They currently work about 88ha of vines. This wine comes from vines averaging at least 60 years of age, some likely more than 70. It's vinified in concrete with 20% whole-bunch fruit, before ageing for 12 months, partially in oak barrels. Andy Howard MW: Dark cherry fruit, fresh acidity with elegant, refined oak. A touch of bitter and sour on the finish, but a quiet, reserved wine that will age well for several years. Melania Battiston: Stalky redcurrants and hawthorn, appealing wild strawberry and rosemary freshness. An effortless weight on the palate, firm tannins and pleasant acidity. Victoria Daskal: Red berry fruits and scented dried herbs on the nose. Lovely texture, satin grip, with a fresh, crisp acidity. Very enjoyable. Drinking window: 2025-2035. Score - 95.
