Following My Spirit Home is a collection of Sam Zimmerman's vibrant paintings presented alongside traditional stories passed down from his family and the Grand Portage Ojibwe community. The paintings and stories reflect Zimmerman's Ojibwe heritage as well as his personal experiences in the landscapes of northern Minnesota and Lake Superior's North Shore. Zimmerman provides a detailed description and story behind each of the 80-plus paintings in the book. The traditional stories are told in the Ojibwe language, making the book both visually stunning and a resource for language revitalization. Promotes environmental stewardship and connecting with the landscape. Zimmerman and his work have been profiled on Minnesota Public Radio, in the Duluth News Tribune , in  Northern Wilds  magazine, and in other regional media.  The author/artist has presented at schools, galleries, community centers, and environmental groups. His paintings have been shown at several galleries and tribal centers in northern Minnesota. The book was first published in hardcover ($49.95) by Black Bears and Blueberries Publishing but was not widely distributed through the book trade or specialty channels; still, the initial 1000-copy print run sold out in less than a year.
