The Glossary for Inland Water Transport is aimed to facilitate understanding of ECE rules, standards and resolutions and avoiding different interpretation, ensure the consistency of the terminology with the legal instruments and standards of international organizations in the field of inland water transport, and to facilitate cross-sectoral cooperation and the unification of terms related to inland water transport. The glossary builds on the terminology used by other ECE Working Parties in the field of transport, trade facilitation, and environment as well as other international organizations. It comprises about 600 terms and definitions used in ECE resolutions and publications relevant to the various aspects of inland water transport.
