Hospices de Nuits was founded in 1270 as a hospital for the poor. Over the centuries, it has survived through donations from local families; donations that included vineyards. The Hospices now owns 12.5 hectares of the finest vines in Nuits-Saint-Georges and Nuits-Saint-Georges Premier Cru, including Les Didiers monopole and the prestigious Saint-Georges. Since 1961, Hospices de Nuits has raised funds by inviting notable winemakers to craft wines sourced from these vineyards and sell them "en primeur." Edouard Delaunay has long been associated with this charitable grand auction and has often been the sole producer to work given vintages on behalf of the Hospices. This expressive wine shows cherry, strawberry, vanilla and almond. It will age into the mid-2040s+. Hospices de Nuits was founded in 1270 as a hospital for the poor.
