Excerpt from India and the Empire: A Consideration of the Tariff Problem In the following pages reference is made more than once to the progress achieved in recent years by Germany and the United States of America. From all appearances Germany is now approaching a period of financial stress, whilst the United States are already involved in a monetary crisis. It is to be expected, therefore, that superficial critics will point triumphantly to these facts as evidence of the unsoundness of a scientific commercial State policy as compared to the partially free import tariff system of the United Kingdom. This is not the place to enter upon a consideration of monetary or financial problems suffice it to say that all well-informed students of the currencies and money markets of the world will readily recognise that the pre sent financial situations in Germany and the United States (to make no mention of the con ditions prevailing in France and the United Kingdom) are in no way connected with the fiscal policies of the nations concerned. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Find more at www.forgottenbooks.com This book is a reproduction of an important historical work. Forgotten Books uses state-of-the-art technology to digitally reconstruct the work, preserving the original format whilst repairing imperfections present in the aged copy. We do, however, repair the vast majority of imperfections successfully; any imperfections that remain are intentionally left to preserve the state of such historical works.
