‘Jane of Lantern Hill,’ an early work by Lucy Maud Montgomery was originally published in 1937. It is the story of an unsatisfied girl living with her mother, aunt, and cranky old grandmother in Toronto, Ontario. Jane had always believed her father was dead, but one day discovers he is alive and living on Prince Edward Island. When Jane eventually gets to meet her father and spends a summer on the island at Lantern Hill, she believes life couldn’t get any better.Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on 30th November 1874, in New London, in the Canadian province of Prince Edward Island. Her mother, Clara Woolner (Macneil), died before Lucy reached the age of two and so her maternal grandparents raised her in a family of wealthy Scottish immigrants. In 1908 Montgomery produced her first full-length novel, titled 'Anne of Green Gables'. It was an instant success, and following it up with several sequels, Montgomery became a regular on the best-seller list and an international household name.
