This new edition of Rameau's piano works, edited by Edwin McLean, brings the elegance of Rameau's harpsichord compositions to the modern piano. While the original works were written for harpsichord, they translate beautifully to piano, and this edition offers additional piano-appropriate dynamics, such as piano and forte, though these need not be followed strictly. Suggested tempo indications and fingerings have also been added to guide the performer. The edition remains faithful to the original phrasing and ornamentation from Rameau's first editions. It includes selections from the easier pieces of Rameau's Premier livre de pièces de clavecin (1706) and Pièces de clavecin avec une méthode (1724), providing a balanced collection that maintains historical integrity while offering modern pianists a new interpretive framework.
