John Gurda has stood at the front of more buses than he can easily count. The first was in 1975, when the Junior League of Milwaukee requested a rolling overview of the city for its new members. He’s led hundreds of tours since then, most often on motor coaches, but also on school buses, vans, limousines, bicycles and, in much shorter stretches, on foot. For John, interpreting the city in real time for a live audience has been a welcome counterpart to the sedentary business of writing, even if it usually meant a cramped microphone hand and stiff legs after hours on the road.
