Kathleen Watkins presents the detailed results of many years' collaborative research into her branch of the Laurie family, descendants of William Laurie of Laurieknowe, who died in 1780. His many distinguished descendants included Robert Laurie (1806-1882), Clarenceux King of Arms; Robert Naylor Laurie (1823-1859), founder of the South African branch of the family, and Henry Alfred Laurie (1845-1921), one-time claimant of the Laurie Baronetcy of Maxwelton. Research has shown how the family spread geographically to India, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and North America. All descendants of John Laurie (1756-1830) are entitled to bear the Laurie arms.
