In LEAP, Yap Kwong Weng makes a compelling case for the need to adapt in today’s world. From extreme experiences in US Navy Seal training to trekking 100 km across the Taklamakan Desert in China to doing business in a leading Oil & Gas company in Myanmar, the author shares his insights into what he has learnt and suggests ways to strengthen your purpose and how to keep going when the odds are stacked against you. Yap Kwong Weng – a former platoon commander in the Singapore Armed Forces Commandos, graduate of US Navy Seals/BUDS Class 237 (2002), and Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum – has faced many setbacks and difficulties. In rising above them he learnt the true meaning of kinship, friendship and commitment to social causes. These are matters closest to his heart. Kwong Weng attained his first degree at the ‘late’ age of 30 from State University of New York (US), and thereafter an MBA from the University of Manchester, UK, and in 2012 he received a Master in Public Administration from the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy. He is an active volunteer, and today he is the Cambodia Country Chair of Global Dignity, a non-partisan organisation founded by the Crown Prince of Norway HRH Haakon. To raise awareness for the UN Millennium Goals, he trekked across the Taklamakan Desert in 2010. In 2011 he was one of ‘25 Young Outstanding Singaporeans’ by Junior Chambers International, Rotary Peace Fellow by Rotary International. He was also the former Secretary General of the United Nations Association of Singapore (2011–2013) where he developed key international programmes. This book tells his story.
