When the lives of a man and two women collide in the picturesque tourist village of Lindos on the island of Rhodes in the summers of 2019 and 2020 the man starts to question elements of his life lived on the basis of the 'unbearable lightness of being'. An existence identified and defined in the Czech writer Milan Kundera's famous novel of the same name which explores and examines the tension between freedom and responsibility; the irreconcilable tension between love and infidelity. Within that tension a range of events over those two Lindian summers highlight the responsibilities of the three characters to themselves and others - the man's introspection, dilemma and struggle between love and infidelity, one of the women's scepticism about him and relationships in general, and the other woman's driven self-interest within her political and personal opportunism. Each of the three is hiding secrets within them, including political ones, fuelling the tension and challenging any possibility of fidelity and love. -------------- *"* The stupidity of people comes from having an answer to everything. The wisdom of the novel comes from having a question for everything ... A novel does not assert anything; a novel searches and poses questions ... I don't know which of my characters is right. I invent stories, confront one with another, and by this means I ask questions." "It seems to me that all over the world people nowadays prefer to judge rather than to understand, to answer rather than to ask, so that the voice of the novel can hardly be heard over the noisy foolishness of human certainties."******(Milan Kundera) Author's website: www.johnwilton.yolasite.com
