Aim of this book
Cutting-edge technology is being used for dental treatments all over the world. This technology aims to treat dental decay or improve aesthetics. These treatments are very expensive, and the majority of people simply cannot afford it. If you can prevent cavities and detect space issues early on by spreading awareness and by educating the community, then there would be less of a need to do expensive treatments.
This booklet aims to educate the community on topics to maintain good oral health and how to prevent and treat common dental issues and emergencies. It also aims to bring awareness to airway dentistry: to educate people on the link between the development of the jaws and general health. This book also acts as a guide to new mothers to implement good oral hygiene practices in their child's life before the appearance of the first tooth.
The importance of maintaining good oral health and function in your child:
Good oral health allows your child to smile with confidence, to eat, chew and enjoy food properly to obtain good nutrition for their growing bodies, to be able to speak well and to reduce the risk of developing a painful dental abscess. By addressing airway issues early on, children will be able to thrive by getting quality sleep and to allow them to reach his or her full growth potential.
My name is Aaminah Sedick. I am a dentist with a special interest in Paediatric Dentistry. I obtained my BChD at the University of the Western Cape in 2015. I have completed my community service At Mofumahadi Manapo Mopeli Hospital in Qwa Qwa, Free State. I have written articles for a community newsletter that has been the driving force for this book. I am also a mom of 3 children, all of whom have been the main inspiration.
