This book compares and contrasts the worlds of Medieval Italy and Medieval China. What attributes did these two places -- the birth-places of the Renaissance and the Ming Dynasty, the largest empire in the world at the time -- have in common? What made them different? How did religion, politics, and society work in both of these medieval locales? This book tries to think over the answers to some of these questions.
