MICHIGAN PETITIONS, ETC. 1790-1810 [1785-1814] contains 1 name for 1790, 794 names for 1800, and 1335 names for 1810. Clearly, that is not enough for 1790, but the others begin to approach the number needed. Especially is this so for 1810 because we are fortunate enough to have much of what appears to be the federal 1810 census. Since no federal census exists for 1800, these records nicely substitute for those missing documents. These records include an incredible amount of information about these early people. While censuses help track people, the records this book includes are even better in some respects than the census because it helps us understand some of their personal feelings and challenges they faced. Some additional biographical details may be included, plus possible relationships with other family members.Michigan State Motto: Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam circumspice (English: "If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you")
