Rail 123 is the only enthusiast publication that covers the FULL listing of all current UK rail vehicles, locos, multiple units, passenger coaches, non-passenger coaches, track machines, light rail trains and preserved equipment (both steam and modern traction). It also includes full listings of trains operating in Ireland and the Isle of Man - and is the only UK publication to do so. Every extant vehicle is included, colour-coded for quick reference with full details of names, livery, allocation, operational status, and operator. Current and previous identities are given. A colour illustration is provided of each major class to help identification. A full review of the UK traction status is provided class by class, detailing their history, use and future plans. UK railways use many alpha-numeric codes for identification and fittings, full details of these are given in tables at the rear of the publication. Since publication of the last Rail 123, over 10,000 amendments to data cells have been made. The 2025 edition, which includes details of all new trains on order at December 2024, is updated to 1 December 2024. Information is sourced from the rail vehicle owners, operators, and Network Rail and not on train spotter reports.
