On the vessel was a judge from a western city, with his wife and two daughters. An acquaintance sprang up which led to the statement from the judge that he was bound for the Arctic land, to observe at close range the habits of the reindeer. Wrap ped in seclusion, was the way in which he refer red to the north of Norway and Sweden. We have been told, he afterward wrote in a book.
