These remnants and reflections include accounts of world travel, coverage of automobile racing, encounters with talented writers, editors, photographers, and artists. The racing section involves drivers from Mario Andretti to Paul Newman to Dick Smothers, competing at Sebring, Daytona, Indianapolis, and LeMans. The author lived and worked in Miami, Charlotte, Louisville, Dallas, Kansas City, and Atlanta, producing work that has appeared in The New York Times and many other publications. The writers, cartoonists and photographers he has worked with include humorists such as Roy Blount Jr., Charlie Daniel and James Noel Smith, Skeeter Hagler and Jay Dickman. In Dallas, he excerpted Cormac McCarthy's "Blood Meridian." And, seeing the potential of Twitter's limitations, he most recently has written dozens of Hillbilly Haiku, several of which are included in this collection.
