Larry E. Brasher’s first Santa Fe Locomotive Development volume, released in 2006, told the story of the development of ultimate steam passenger and freight locomotives. After illuminating the Santa Fe Railway’s mastery of steam locomotive technology the first volume also reached into the beginning of the Santa Fe’s influence on the pioneering diesel locomotives which by 1934 were at the crossroads of making steam locomotives obsolete.  Now, The Railroad Artifact Preservation Society is proud to bring you Santa Fe Diesel Locomotive Development picking up where the first volume left off and taking the story on from mid-1934 to 1959.   Santa Fe Diesel Locomotive Development examines Santa Fe’s role in diesel locomotive development and technology. GM’s EMD F and GP units, Fairbanks-Morse switch engines, Baldwin’s 2600s, Alco’s PAs and more, are all covered. Then just like the steam engines, the diesels had to be adapted to Santa Fe Railways exacting standards and the demands of its unique territory. This is the latest book from Larry E. Brasher, 2015 winner of the Santa Fe Railway Historical & Modeling Society’s – “Lifetime Achievement Award.”
