Trucking in the 80s was a rough and tumble boys-only industry that wasn't accustomed to women drivers. If a woman drove professionally, she usually partnered with her husband or boyfriend. Trucking companies were leery of hiring women, and we were often seen as far less than drivers. I began my truck driving career in 1985 at the age of 26. It was a time when female truckers were virtually unheard of. Although women weren't entirely welcomed in the world of trucking, I loved my job and was determined to become a professional, solo female trucker and overcome every stereotype.
