C. B. Association took up the consideration of the matter and through committees appointed for the purpose, made extensive experiments and tests with different types of couplers, and eventually selected the vertical plane coupler and made it the standard of the Association, in 1888, and the contour lines adopted by the Association were scribed from the Janney coupler used in those tests.
