At its core, The Half-Breed Horse Thief is a poetic memoir, non-linear in its landscape of experience and fragmented memories. A disparaging term made poetic, the title represents someone from a mixed background who, so to find themselves within disparate cultures without inheritance, must become a bandit, a punk, must steal by adapting, moving chameleon-like between houses, states & countries; when mixed race, you must thieve culture you are not given outright, are not sheltered with since birth - displaced inside feeling on the outside of both. Within the story are its parts - distinct - but the whole is not there. A mixture of straight-forward & skirting, curious sense of humor, musing through an abstract lens, nit-picking at memories, finding truths & untruths.
