As we learned so many valuable lessons in our journey to become a start-up, we know that we should ask ourselves: ‘who’s going to buy this book?’ Or in this case: ‘read this?’ Even the idea of making a book out of our ten newsletters that tells our story, appeared to follow almost all steps of the typical curve start-ups face. This curve forms the outline of the first ten chapters of this book. As we heard many times from test readers how they liked reading a draft version of this book, we knew not to get carried away. Liking a book is one thing, buying it another. For us most important became that people would actually read this book, for their benefit, and to be honest for our joy that other people would actually read our book. This book is about our reflection on why Accesserator failed as a start-up investment company in Malawi and inevitable why our investments failed to bring the financial success we aimed for. And this book provides a solution on how we could have, and future entrepreneurs still can, become a successfull start-up. This book is our honest effort to let others do better in growing their business and contribute to the entrepreneurial ecosystem, as the ability of self-reflection is the least legacy we want to leave behind.
