Early 1980s the North Nevada economy is in a slump and our John Williams' life is in the dump. But as always, John Williams, known to readers as "_ e Lucky Loser," and "Side-door Johnny," will, through nothing more than dumb-fucking-luck, get by, get-it-on, and move up. John Williams has many faults, many deficiencies, but has always had one everlasting goal in life: "Survival." Landing in windy, dusty, depressing Reno, Nevada, John knows he has to change, has to hide, and has to convert himself from a fist swinging, drug abusing, degenerate gambler, drinker, and womanizer, into a decent, respectable, admired member of society.
